Known As The Sunday School Teacher
Patricia Leger McFarlin was born in Eunice, Louisiana. She is the daughter of the late Joseph and Elzina Leger. She has four brothers: Joseph Jr. (Garden Grove, CA, James (deceased who lived in Centerville, VA, Jimmie who lives in Snellville, GA, and Jessie, who lives in Baton Rouge, LA) She is known as P. A. by her friends.
In 1974, Patricia dedicated her life to the service of the Lord. She became a member of Greater St Stephen Baptist Church under the leadership of Late Rev. Percy Simpson and he was succeeded by Pastor Paul S. Morton (Bishop and later the Founder of Full Gospel). She worked with the Youth Department as a leader, Sunday School as a teacher, Women’s Department as a leader, in Christian Education (seminars, retreats, workshops, etc.), organized church trips, and also served as the Youth President of the Association. |

She graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1975. While at Xavier, she joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1972. She served as President of her chapter and a Regional Representative for the Southwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta. She worked with the New Orleans Alumnae and presently is a member of the LaGrange Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta (since 2008).
After counseling with her Pastor, Paul S. Morton in March, 1982, she moved her membership to New Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Prophet Robert C. Blakes Sr. She continued to work as a Sunday School Teacher and later became a leader in the Education Department, teaching classes for leadership and lay members. She assisted in establishing and working with the Missionary Board in New Home.
She received a Masters in Counseling in May, 1982 from the University of New Orleans. She worked 30 years in Louisiana and held various positions from classroom teacher, Coordinator of Special Education, Counselor and Principal. She retired from Louisiana in 2006. Presently, she is employed as a teacher in Troup County Schools in LaGrange, Georgia since 2009.
In 1984, she was called to preach the gospel. As she continued to grow in the Word, she became actively involved in the Prison Ministry and street evangelism. In 1986, she married Arthur J. McFarlin. Patricia received a Masters in Religious Education in 1990, from the Christian Bible College located in Kenner, Louisiana. In 1991, she and Elder Arthur J. McFarlin started the Applying the Word Radio Broadcast which broadcasted first in LaGrange, Georgia.
In 1998, she was ordained as a minister in the New Home Full Gospel Baptist Association. She was privileged to serve as the Director of Education in the East Church under Pastor Robert C. Blakes Jr. and after Hurricane Katrina (2005), she served the Baton Rouge Church under Prophet Robert C. Blakes Sr.
In 1999, Pastor McFarlin established the Applying The Word Church in New Orleans. She worked faithfully with her husband and Pastor. She worked with both the youth and women’s department. She served as a counselor and a Minister of the Word. She organized “Women Ignited by the Word” which was a monthly women’s fellowship. She also established a monthly Prayer Breakfast. Patricia spoke at various churches and supported the Radio Ministry of Applying The Word, serving as the Radio Announcer.
In 2007, Patricia became the Co-Pastor of Applying The Word Ministries now located in LaGrange, Georgia. She also serves as the Hostess of the Prayer Breakfast. This group meets to share the Word of God about six times a year and a good hot breakfast is served by volunteers.
In 2009, Patricia and Pastor McFarlin started an Outreach in the Amberwoods Apartments. They taught Bible Study each Monday night and showed a movie once a month to the residents of Amberwoods. (This is a residence setting for Senior citizens.)
Pastor McFarlin, was directed by God and moved the outreach to Twin Fountains Nursing Home on Good Friday, March 25, 2016. He teaches the Word of God and ministers to the residents each Tuesday at 10am.
On November 7, 2010, The Sunday School Teacher, which is an outreach ministry of Applying The Word, started broadcasting each Sunday morning on WTRP 620 AM Radio Station at 9:30am with Co-Pastor Pat McFarlin teaching the Sunday School over the airways. In April, 2016 the Sunday School Teacher moved from WTRP to WPCH 1310AM each Saturday morning at 9:30am.
On June 2, 2012 The Sunday School Teacher started to air on WBRQ Radio Station (91.9 FM). The School Teacher broadcasts each Saturday morning at 8:30am with Co-Pastor Pat McFarlin reviewing the lessons. God opened another door in September 4, 2016, and the Sunday School Teacher started to air on WLAG 1240AM and 96.9FM each Sunday Morning at 9:00am
Co-Pastor McFarlin’s greatest love is the study of God’s Word, teaching the Word and preaching of the Word of God. Her favorite scripture is found in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of truth.”
